Abstract:

Background: Anthropological measurement such as brain weight and CRANIAL CAPACITY are useful in practice for health evaluation of the newborns and also a base for alterations in future years of life. This research is accomplished For determining of brain weight and CRANIAL CAPACITY and effects of racial factor on Them. Methods: 423 normal female newborn infants in Turkman (n=211) and Native Fars (n=212) groups were evaluated by classic cephalometry. Results: The mean (SD) of brain weight and CRANIAL CAPACITY in Fars and Turkman groups were 453.5 ± 65.7 grand 438.2 ± 63.5ml and 433.5 ± 34.4 grand 418.8 ± 33.2ml, respectively. These differences are statistically significant. Conclusion: Results have revealed that racial factors could influence brain weight and CRANIAL CAPACITY in normal female newborns.

Abstract:

Background and Objective: The size of the human body is studied in anthropometry. In the one field of anthropometry, the relation of skull and brain size with body weight and height in human are studied. This study was done to determine the relation between CRANIAL CAPACITY and brain weight with body weight and height in 18-26 years old Iranian students. Methods: This cross-sectional study was done on 286 students (150 females and 136 males) in Arak, Iran. CRANIAL CAPACITY, brain weight, body weight and height, cerebral index and the ratio of brain to body (cerebral quotient) in 18-26 years old students were measeared. Results: The mean of CRANIAL CAPACITY in males and females were 1393.71 and 1168.71 mm3, respectively (P<0.05). The mean of brain weight in males and females were 1445.19 and 1209.61 gram, respectively (P<0.05). The mean of cerebral index in males and females were 1.99 and 2.2, respectively (P<0.05). Positive statistical correlation was seen between CRANIAL CAPACITY with body weight, height and BMI in both gender. Conclusion: Cranianl CAPACITY and brain weight in males was more than females while cerebral index was more in females.

Abstract:

The lack of Quranic approaches in the production of Quran-based humanities is still felt, despite the predominance of the philosophical approach in critical approaches to modern humanities, which has become very common in the Islamic world and in Iran for several decades. It seems that the CAPACITY of the method of thematic exegesis (al-Tafsīr al-mawdū'ī, Arabic: التفسیر الموضوعیّ) in this regard, can be used to bring the Holy Quran into the field of humanities. Thematic exegesis, according to whether its subject is inside or outside the Qur'an, has several functions in criticizing the structure of modern knowledge and scientific research, as well as the production of Islamic humanities. It is possible to make use of thematic exegesis of the inside of the Holy Book of Quran in order to “fundamental criticism” of the general fundamentals of humanities -the fundamentals of epistemology, axiology, ontology and anthropology- and it is also possible to use thematic exegesis for constructing and producing foundation of humanities obtained from the Holy Quran. It is used by thematic interpretation exegesis of the outside of the Holy Book of Quran -such as Shahīd (martyr) Sadr’s interrogational approach- to answer the problems of humanities and this process faces challenges such as the complexity and multiplicity of the “subject” of the humanities that exist in modern terminology of this field. It can be used in order to solve this issue in some cases to know the process of the change of the components of the modern of the conceptual history’s approach and also by analyzing the issue into several components can be shown that the components are not necessarily a product of the modern era and can be followed up in the Holy Quran and can be found up in the Holy Quran. The perspective of the Holy Quran, after that, regarding the modern subject in the desired field by the “combining” of the results obtained based on the thematic interpretation.

Abstract:

Vincristine (VCR) is a vinca alkaloid that is used for treatment of many malignancies. The vinca alkaloids are neurotoxic, usually causing a peripheral neuropathy, but CRANIAL neuropathies are rare as side effects.Described here is the case of a 2.5-year-old boy, a known case of Wilms’ tumor, treated by vincristine (0.067 mg/kg/day) and dactinomycin (0.045 mg/kg/day) after surgery. Three weeks after treatment, he presented with bilateral ptosis.Neurological examination revealed bilateral ptosis with normal pupillary reflex and eye movement. He received 3.015 mg cumulative dose of vincristine before development of ptosis.Treatment with pyridoxine (150 mg/m2 p.o. BID) and pyridostigmine (3 mg/kg p.o. BID) was started as neuroprotective agents, and after 7 days the problem disappeared. The treatment continued for 6 weeks and there were no signs of ptosis or a recurrence in follow up 2 months later.

Abstract:

Background: Considering that 85% of ischemic strokes take place in MCA (middle cerebral artery), and Trans-CRANIAL Doppler sonography (TCD) is a sensitive and non-invasive diagnostic technique, the present study was aimed at assessing alterations in CRANIAL blood flow in MCA in order to determine the prognosis after a stroke and to predict the likelihood of another stroke.Materials and methods: During this descriptive study, the anterior circulation arteries of 44 patients, suffering from MCA stroke for the first time, were evaluated using the TCD technique. Results: Peak systolic velocity (PSV) and mean flow velocity (MFV) of ipsilateral MCA were reduced resulting in more than 15% of asymmetry of flow in 61.4% of the patients (p<0.005). PSV and MFV of ACA were increased resulting in increased ratio of ipsilateral to contra lateral ACA (ACAVR) in 72.2% of the cases (p<0.005). Pulsatility index (PI) of ipsilateral MCA to contra lateral MCA was increased significantly indicating distal vascular resistance. Resistance index (RI) of ipsilateral and contra lateral MCA did not differ significantly. Conclusion: Ischemic MCA infarcts reduce PSV and MFV in ipsilateral MCA and increase PSV and MFV in ipsilateral ACA, resulting in increased ipsilateral ACAVR, which is the most valuable parameter in determining MCA infarct. RI value did not correlate with the final size of the infarct.

Abstract:

Introduction: Among several cephalometric analyses used in orthodontics. Done of them could present all diagnostic and interpretative features. The aim of this study is to apply a simple and convenient approach which could enable the orthodontists to gain maximum information from it.Materials and Methods: Cephalograms of 58 adults patient (40 femals and 18males) with mean age of 15 years and 4 months, were used for analysis. After tracing, the relationship between mandibular plane and the most inferior point of posterior CRANIAL fosse was assessed. Results: The data revealed that:- SNA and SNB were less than norms which was not significant. - In patients with normal facial height, extension of mandibular plane lay lower to posterior CRANIAL fosse and the mean distance was 6.84 mm. - Mp-Ar-NAngle was 42°to 55°(49 ± 6) that was 2° less than Norms. Conclusion: Extension of mandibular plane to posterior CRANIAL fosse or lower, shows that there is a failure in vertical growth.
